First Baptist Church began in 1839 as the first Baptist church in Rockingham County, erecting the first church building in the town of Leaksville (now part of Eden) shortly thereafter.
The present sanctuary was built in 1886 and the Education Building in 1960. Mission work has been a hallmark of the church since its inception, evidenced by both local and world-wide projects in numerous places including North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Chile, Great Britain, and Ukraine. Over the years, FBC started and supported about 15 mission churches across the county, many still active today.
